This is a very frequent question on this forum. The probably best selling 15-40 oil is called "all fleet" because it will work well in heavy equipment and trucks as well as light trucks and cars, and meets spec. for all. So 95 % of the guys on this forum do just that. The gov't. has forced the manufactures to spec. lighter oil in newer vehicles in order to meet fleet fuel mileage specs. Many owners will run lighter oil in cooler seasons and heavier in hot weather in order to prolong engine life.
