Rained what looks like a couple inches last night. Cold wind overnight. But the weather bureau has dropped the freezing rain advisory. Rain forced into goat shelter, their bedding was a quagmire this morning. While renewing the straw supply, I pulled out one of the smaller goats, (25#), she was suffering from hypothermia. Wife took her in, gave her a warm bath - dried her with a hair dryer. She's been under a heatlamp since morning. Dosed her with molasses and vitamin b. She's standing up now, and drank some water. Hopefully, she'll make it. Got to rethink strategies - we shear our sheep and goats first week in April, when our contractor/shearer can make her Michigan swing. Maybe I'll hold off on the goats until a couple weeks later, and do them myself. We lost a couple of goats a few years back due to hypothermia when we had a cold rain just after shearing. They're apparently particuly vunerable to cold.
