My hay all goes to race horses. Orchard is the dominate grass, but I add Timothy and blue, and lately a little perrenial rye. The grasses all mature at different times. It is impossible to cut hay before it heads. Sounds good on paper but weather makes the rules. I do not put clover in my grass hay fields. I do put white dutch clover in my pastures for nitrogen. Have had no luck with red clover in pastures. Timothy is good in hay fields but will not stand up to pasture grazing pressure.
We try to avoid fescue but it creeps in everywhere.....birds?
