At 75 in the 30's the man would've been born likely in the 1860s. I find it interesting how history is really not that far behind us. Recently my 5th grade son was studying the American Revolution in school. He was talking about how long ago that was (interested in histroy but just couldn't really comprehend 240 years). He has met my grandfather (his great, born in 1925). I explained to him that if my great grandfather had met his great granfather as a boy etc. etc. we were only 4 great granfather's away from the revolution.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
