It wasn't so long ago that Tractor Supply *did* sell all the tractor parts and tried to stick to their guns like y'all think they should. They almost went out of business!
Both Central Tractor and Quality Farm & Family swirled the drain for many years, sticking to their guns, trying to market to "real" farmers. They *DID* go out of business.
Sometimes you have to do what you have to do to survive... You should be proud of Tractor Supply for turning it around and finding a way to stay in business.
"Proud of TSC"? That would be a real stretch.
Don't get me wrong, no Average Joe can fix most of this new crap. Wiring harnesses that a guy can't bear hug are quite daunting. Alot isn't meant to be repaired, including some items TSC offers. Try adjusting or rebuilding a carb on a new mower or log splitter. You can't. Alot of pre-1985 or so ag stuff can be worked on by the farmer-mechanic and alot of this stuff is still being used. Plenty of wear parts on newer tillage, hay, planting and harvesting equipment can still be serviced by the farmer. Bearings, belts, and bushings still need to be changed.
As TSC has dumped their ag offerings left and right and today offer very little of anything new ag-wise, places like SHOUP thrive selling agricultural items of their choosing. New offerings are in each Shoup catalog. Improvements to existing equipment is often available to make it better than new. Obsolete, slow moving, unprofitable, or NLA offerings are dropped. TSC was once a sucessful innovator in creating, sourcing, and supplying tractor and equipment parts and ag related supplies to the public via catalog and retail stores. Where's their innovation today?
TSC is what it is. It's a wasted trip for most farmers.

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
