Carpenter ants will inflict the same kind of damage as termites. Carpenter ants will eat any wood but will prefer dry wood. I don't use any wood with them in it unless it goes directly into the fire. If you see them in the house you need to spray, they are a major threat to your house. If they can eat the tree they can eat your house.
