I should have said "coming back" to my town. Like so many others---Hank W., Jim Reeves, Johnny Horton, Johnny Cash, Elvis, list goes on---George's first big gig was here on the Louisiana Hayride. He grew up just over the line in east Texas.
My life-long liking of his music began in the summer of '62. I was in Buras, La., working in the oil field. The juke box at the bar/restaurant/rooming house where I was staying (the Big Fish; anybody remember it?) played "She Thinks I Still Care" about every other song. I was hooked.
