Well I have not been on here much this week as we have been real busy around here. The weather is finally getting a little better for field work.
Spent all day Monday changing the transmission in one of the semis. It had a Spicer 10 speed in it that lost a bearing. It sounded like a rock crusher. So I replaced it with a Road Ranger RTO 14613 13 speed. It is a much better transmission for what we do. Found a low mile salvage transmission for $1300. So a days work and shortening the drive shaft an we where good to go.
Tuesday right after morning chores I got the JD 4960 out for the boys to use on the anhydrous bar. I don't use anhydrous any more but the boys and my brother do. We jointly own a 15 shank applicator. They kept the 4960 going 24 hours a day since then. It was only shut off to fuel and check the fluids. I ran it a little last night. When they shut it off this evening at 8 PM they had covered 1900 acres of corn ground since Tuesday morning. Out of the 108 possible hours the tractor tack shows 96 hours of operation since I got it out of the shed Tuesday morning. So that is pretty darn good job well done for them and the tractor.
After they got going Tuesday I spent the rest of the week building fence, gate ways and hanging gates. I had my oldest grand son helping me he is on leave from the Army right now. He does not get out until July. They where two of his friends helping too. The friends have been laid off since last fall. We built 850 rod of fence. 22 gate ways and hung over fifty gates. Most of this was on the farm we are getting back to rent but some of it was on my pasture too.
So we have had a good week with a lot of stuff getting done. I am going to have to work tomorrow, seeding down water ways and about 95 acres of hay. That ground was still too wet to work earlier. I think we can get most of it now. they are calling for rain starting Monday again. So I am going to hook the JD 4960 to the finisher in the morning and go see how the ground works. I ran my brother's field cultivator through some of it Thursday and that real has dried out.
So if the weather holds I hope to have a good day tomorrow. Then we will just have to see how good the weather guessers are the rest of the week.
I like the spring. New life all around if you take the time to see it. Have a good weekend and week if I do not get back on here soon. Truthfully I hope I am too busy to be on here. Got a lot of spring work to do.

Today's Featured Article - A Question for Dads This recent topic from the Tractor Talk discussion board is being highlighted because it is an awesome display of the caliber of individuals that have made this site their own. The young person asking questions received positive feedback and advice from total strangers who "told it like it is" with the care many reserve for their own kids. The advice is timeless... so although it isn't necessarily antique tractor related, it will be prominently displayed in our archives to honor those who have the courage to ask and those who have the courage to respond in an honest, positive manner.
