One thing I try to do is drink as much water as possible or remember to do so, more so in the colder months, when its warmer, I think I get enough, I can tell the difference when I do not and it does seem that the one ankle joint, that did not have the degenerated bone matter removed, can totally debilitate me, can't walk without a crutch if it acts up.
I know everyone is sort of wired differently so to speak, and or things effect people in various ways, so what works for one may not work for another, but dealing with arthritis is no fun. I'm not sure of the complete extent of it in my case, but do have it in both my ankles, right foot and one wrist.
About a week ago, after doing some hard work all that week, maybe it was because I was on my feet too long, who knows, but I had a job to do at a friends farm, splitting several cord of pine from storm damage, for outdoor fires, kindling shame to let it rot etc. + we were gathering up more sawlogs from the same storm and the day before, the pain was just festering in my foot, and going up my leg to the point it was getting unbearable, which is a new plateau of pain for me, and its hard to believe being in the mid forties LOL !
The only relief of this was to lay down, get back up in the morning its still there, and gets worse as the day goes on. At the request of my doctor, I keep a prescription of 800 MG Ibuprofen pills. I took 2 the morning we set out to go to that other farm, it stopped the pain in short order, and that was it, that foot is always sore to some degree, but I did not have to take any more, I keep em in the refrigerator, the ones I took were from '09, still potent. Have a new refill I have not even got to yet. I do not like taking any prescription drugs, more or less the chemical aspect of it I hate, there are times when you need them, but I avoid it until I just can't deal with it. I would rather use some alternative, cool you posted that question as I am just as interested LOL !
The one thing with all of this that intimidates me, is what happens further down the road, hopefully I can and people with this problem can manage, being able to walk and or other problems certainly come to mind, as well as figuring out how to cope or minimize the problem. I have some extra weight to carry and that also is part of this I will bet, I'll say maybe 50lbs, given my height and build, I have taken 15lbs off so far, and hope it continues, I have had less ankle trouble so far, so I know I have to keep up on this and get back to 200lbs or so, that is another non prescription solution, don't seem to have any other problems from the weight, BP is perfect, good report from the doctor, she agrees, the extra weight does put so much more stress on things.
