I'm quite sure there is an hp upgrade from the factory between those trucks. 20 or 30 horse doesnt seem like much, but it is. I put a power puck in my 2001costs dodge diesel, and man what a difference! That thing will pull like a beast and gets better mileage empty. Manual transmissions make a difference in the older trucks also. I'm not sure which years, but some of the 12 valve dodges with manual transmissions were rated at higher hp and torque from the factory. Fords may have been the same way, but I'm not sure.
