Must be a lot of forces applied to these, farmer I used to help, his '08 model 637 heavy JD disc somehow tore the 1/2" angle that holds the gang to the main frame/toolbar or thick square tubing. First time it was a crack or tear, I welded it, was on the flat so that worked well for my limited skills, weld came out good, it held and was strong, but the angle tore again further over, had to cut that old angle iron right off and had another new piece made up to match what the factory used at the steel supplier, welded that on and it never happened again, or had any sign of trouble after hundreds of acres in tough rocky ground. Maybe it was stressed, defective from the factory. I could never see how you could tear 1/2" steel like that, I kept the scrap piece to show how darned strong 7018 is in tension, even done by an amateur. I can see how the outside rear and smaller disc's get buggered up, his brother used to get too close to the edge, trees etc., but not that 1/2" steel even in the rocky soils here has to be a ton of stress on these or someone did something beyond my comprehension with it.
