Caught the F1 race this morning, only going to be one more on real TV, they killed coverage of that series.
Got the opening laps of the 500 on now. Seneca, and the Unsers and that era was great. When they tried to turn it into a series and messed up the open wheel drivers and owners and split in 2, they pretty much killed open wheel in the USA. The 500 is special, don't even know anything about their other races or are they even televised any more? Because its a whole series they can't spend time on just the one race like they did, so its just watered down 500 any more. Used to watch all month on abc, time trials, and so on.
This year first heard the starting grid a couple minutes before the race, donno how they do the qualifying any more.
It's a race, but not the event it used to be.
The 600 tonight, NASCAR will screw up what they have too, and give the open wheel folks a chance to come back.
Racing is about spending more money to beat the others, and every series, comes to the point only a very few can spend enough money, so it becomes boring and fades away.
Used to be lawn mower pulls around here, then fellas came with snowmobile engines in their lawn mowers, cool to see, the following year was fire breathing mowers with more power than my plowing tractor, the following year only a couple showed up because no one could compete. No pulls any more.
