Went by the place friend bought the engine from this morning. Guy says sorry but it is out of warranty. Yes I know that; by 2 weeks. Ask why it took so long to get installed and I told him the story. Gave him a different attitude real quick.
So he calls the rebuilder in Dallas to set up return. Rebuilder says OK but lets check a few things first. First thing he says..... No get ready cause I would never have seen this in a million years...... How is the pickup tube mounted??? Sure enough it was wrong. Guy says common problem.
He had the pickup tube mounted below the plate and it was hitting bottom of oil pan starving motor of oil. Here is a picture of how it should be.
This moves the pickup tube up 1/2 inch an gives me about 3/8 to 7/16 space between the pan and pickup.
Now if I can get my helper (grandson) to stop running off with the tools we might get something done. Sure hope it works this time.
