Gene Frase on Pigeon Springs Road, Onalaksa, WA operated his steam powered sawmill, and custom-sawed lumber for folks, well into his '80's. You had to supply the green-chain crew. Finally had to quit- said he was getting too "unsteady on his pins"- was afraid of falling into the works. He finally passed away recently, in his mid-90's. His son says they are keeping it oiled up and maintained, but no one else in the family really knows how to operate it. They're hoping the local steam train association, which has licensed boiler operators, will take it on.
