Cowman, I believe it is a rotary hoe gearbox. It provides a gear speed between 4th and 5th. I have one on my H, and have only seen two others with yours being the third (all on Ms). One sold on Ebay for just under $700 about 5 years ago and the other sold for about $300 about 2 years ago, but looked like it had been through a fire. I did a little research on it a few years back, and I think it was manufactured by Howard. I can't prove this, however. To operate, push clutch in, put transmission in neutral, engage gearbox, release clutch. If you would like, I have some pics of the internals of mine I will post when I find them.
