Thats where it really hurts, besides whatever the h$ll embroiled this situation to what it is now, a person who may plink and or relies on .22 rim fire as a tool for varmint and pest control in an agricultural operation small or large, who used to periodically re-supply, myself included, are shut out currently, because they were not "preparing" for such a scenario, seemingly exacerbated by recent events, both criminal and political, with the results we see right now.
Is this some sort of indirect governmental obstruction of our 2nd amendment, or just a supply and demand thing with some "behind the scenes" or "walking the line" government influence on that, or solely just everyone now wanting to stock up at the same time as some apparent large order by a government agency ? Has to be something, just inconvenient, won't fire a round until deer season now, trap varmints, pests, but one does need a firearm for geese around here and .22's were fine all day long for that at what a 500 box used to cost. Ugly situation, you just hope it runs its course like the last one. Adapt and overcome, for now.
We were a country that tooled up for a massive undertaking in WWII, I find it hard to believe that some ingenious people could not figure out how to obtain raw material, manufacture same if necessary, tool up and manufacture productively in some sort of automation, ammunition to the exact same specifications of current but hard to find factory ammo.
I find the situation inconvenient, seem to have enough on hand for each caliber, but seems prudent to have a moratorium on their use, and just use alternate means when it comes to varmints and pests, and try not to sweat the ammo hoard trend going on.
