You mean the ball in the end of the male pioneer fitting? I haven't noticed a difference in the way either one works. If memory serves me right the poppet types I have came from my IH dealer. Could be the poppet ones allow a little more flow for tractors with higher GPM systems. Look at your male fittings closely, especially at that ridge about 1/2" back from the end of the tip. That ridge is what the female coupler locks onto to hold it in. Sometimes the ridge can be worn from years of use and it doesn't hold the male tip into the female coupler all the way. A few thousanths of an inch can make a big difference in flow. I've thrown away perfectly good looking used male tips that won't flow anymore. I'll screw another used tip on and all will be fine.
