They are talking about a stop plug. You screw out the spark plug and install this stop plug. It is just has a long piece that sticks into the cylinder so the piston top come to rest on it.
To take them off an impact will do it easily. They are common right hand thread. The are metric. I believe the bolt is a 10mm size and the head is 18 mm.
Where the stop should be used is on reinstalling the clutch. They should be torqued to so many foot lbs. There where problems with them falling off and breaking the bolt off in the crankshaft when an impact was used.
I made a set of stops out of old spark plugs. I just break out the porcelain and drill a 1/2 hole through the plug. The put a long 1/2 bolt through the old spark plug. I then braised the bolt in the old spark plug.
When using a stop you roll the engine against the stop by hand real slow. So it is solid against the piston.
