Bill, Last year I wanted to buy a gator, at least I thought I did until I got to looking at them closer. My sister has a 15 year old gator. She likes JD green. Has everything JD, backhoe, mowers, even a JD mower that looks like a dixie chopper. They have a HVAC business and must do lots of work for the JD dealer.
At the end of last year I purchased a 2012 kawasaki 4010 mule for $2500 off normal list, end of year model. Which was about $2000 more than what I could find a used 2x4 gator for.
Well, my mule has 4x4, hi-low tranny, differential lock out, power steering, hyd brakes on all 4, 2 cylinder, fuel injected, water cooled, bigger dump bed, seating for 3, not bucket seats, roll cage.
My sister's gator, rear brakes only, smaller dump bed, bucket seats, no hi-low, no 4x4, no water cooled, no power steering, no roll cage, exposed tranny belt, golf cart with a motor.
Not to start a war, but I'm glad I went with a new mule over a used gator. I love JD green, learned to love Kawasaki red.
There is a place in Salem, Il that is a large ATV dealer, ATV and more. May want to check him out at the end of 2013 and see what kind of deals he has. Sure others will have similar deals too.
BTW, I think a gator uses a kawasaki engine. Good luck. I used searchtempest.com and looked a long time for used gator. George
