Ford 801 with selectomatic trans

I am looking at buying a Ford 801 with a selectomatic transmission.
Is this a good tractor?The trans works but is missing a couple gears.
Is this trans easy to fix?Is it costley to fix?The asking price for this tractor is $3500.
Canadian,about$2000 USA.What would be afair price.Evrything else works OK.Also has a loader.
Also any idea what years this tractor was made. Thanks for your help. DJ
