Kinda related. Last week, I pulled into a parking space at a strip mall that had no cars on either side and the spot facing it empty with a car on one side and none on the other. Pretty wide open lot. I simply pulled ahead to the empty spot across from where I pulled in and the guy in the car next to me started blowing his horn. I got out (plenty of room on his side to completely open my door) and he was yelling at me thru the closed window.
I said "excuse me" as I couldn't understand him, he rolled down his window and said "there's a reason that's illegal". He was boiling mad. He was getting ready to back out of his spot and continued to rant. Finally, I told him that my actions had no impact on him and "have a nice day". I've asked several people and nobody has heard that it was illegal. Some municipalities have signs against backing into a spot in PUBLIC LOTS, but this was a private lot.
I could see where a problem might occur if someone was trying to get into that spot from the other lane, but there was no one in sight.
Any comments on the legality of that or if you guys do the same? I know I'll do it at HD or Lowe's when I'm driving my stick p/u and it's not anywhere close to the entrances.
BTW, it does remind me of the jerks who park in the loading area of HD while they shop, then walk out with a small bag. If I'm going to load stuff, I'll park in the lot, then move my truck if I've got too much stuff to push across the lot, which is infrequent. Just last week, I was pushing a cart full of 4x4's, 2x4
s, mortar, tile and the cashier asked if I needed help. I smiled, said "no thanks" and walked out. She evidently sent a kid out who came up as I was pushing the cart and asked again if I needed help. I smiled and told him" no thanks, if I can't load this stuff myself, I shouldn't be buying it". I guess it was my white hair that made them nervous and they didn't want an old fart dying in the parking lot of a heart attack.

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
