I have a Craftsman GT 5000. It is about 9 years old and has aluminum mandrel housings. I have not had a problem with aluminum and I have hit things to the point of stalling the engine.
There are plenty of parts sources other than Sears. I believe my mower was made by AYP.(American Yard Products)
