IF you guys would read the entire accident report they said the guy "Flew through the air" and ended up under the firetruck. He was not thrown off when the tractor tipped. He was thrown off when the fire truck hit him and knocked him out of the seat. THEN he ended up under the fire truck. HE was NOT pinned under the tractor because of it rolling over. EYE witnesses state the tractor was flipped after the man was under the truck.
Think about it guys. He was half way through a turn and the fire truck hit the back of the tractor. On most of the old tractors with the pan style seats, you ARE the first thing to get hit on the back. The old seats stick out the back of the tractors. HE was HIT first then the tractor was flipped.
The only way a ROPS would have saved him is if it had surrounded the back of the tractor. HE needed a seat belt, roll cage and a BUMPER.
The old truck would scare me more than the tractor. Many of them had almost zero brakes when they where new. Let alone after 50-60 or more years of service. Then they are driven by guys used to modern equipment where a brake failure is rare.
We had a 1930s farm truck. The brakes where a constant battle to keep working. Even then they where not very good. You sure did not go down a hill without putting it in a lower gear before you went down it.
Just an accident that took a man's life. We can never stop all the things that can kill us in a day. People die from car accidents where they have air bags, seat belts, and crash tested vehicles. Still people die everyday in car wrecks.
