I think it depended on where you were as to when they quit checking corn. We had quit that by the early 50's, but I remember my Dad and uncle Tommy talking about it. They shared a #999 John Deere planter and I got to ride on it starting about 1953. I know we never checked any after that, but I sure do remember riding that planter.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
