Short answer--SILAGE. I'm a grain farmer and don't want tall corn it's a waste of fertilizer. I also don't want 2 ears per stalk. Vareity(sp) drives height population drives number of ears, particularly with flex corn. So if I'm getting really tall corn multiple years I look for a different variety. I want the ears just high enough to be above the critters. This year, after an initial dry spell, we have had consistent rains and i will be looking for those double ears; probalby won't do anything as a result but it is a consideration. If next year also as double ears I will up the population a bit. I don't mind a double now and then just one good sized ear per stalk for maximium grain.
