Advanced timing will make that happen. Put the engine on TDC #1 (front) cylinder. The last mark that comes around to the pointer is TDC. If you put your thumb in #1 plug hole and turn it till there is air blowing out, then stop at that mark, it will be correct at TDC. If it is a standard distributor with separate coil, the following applies. Set the point gap at.020", and leave the rotor and cap off. Loosen the distributor bolts where it has a flange, allowing it to turn (not way loose, and don"t turn it). Mark the current position using a felt tip pen on the flange and drive housing. With a test light hooked to ground, and the terminal on the side of the distributor, key on, the light will be either lit or dark. Turn the distributor till the light just wants to flicker off and on. Shut off the switch, and tighten the distributor. Put the rotor and cap back on and see if it will start better. If not, or if it was timed correctly before, Marks in the same place, the battery cables are the next task. they need to be size 0gauge. soldered and clean. the ground should go to a starter bolt to assure best amp flow. This should make things happen, let us know. Jim
