: I just bought a used brush hog and want to sharpen the blades. Right now they look very blunt and not very sharp. Is it normal practice to have the blade cut almost at a right angle to the side of the blade and not pointed like a knife blade? I used to have a 7' 3 blade Deere that had chopped so many corn stalks (and rocks) that not only were they blunt but they were curled up on the front edge. They still worked fine on weeds and brush but on 2' tall fesque they pulled pretty hard. I sharpened them with my cutting torch, (would have taken years on the grinder) eye-balled the bevel, left a nice serrated edge to boot. Didn't seem to soften them any either. Used them for years.
