A lot of it has to do with this site defaulting to "classic view". I know a lot of fellows threaten to quit if classic goes away, but it is hopelessly outdated. In "modern", active topics go to the top with every new post. Unpopular topics sink down and popular topics float up. "Classic" view keeps the topics in order. Once they hit the second or third page, no one's gonna see them unless they're looking for them. Some topics on other sites I frequent are months or years old, but are popular enough to keep getting top-posted.
This site should at least default to "modern" view and make the ones who want "classic" click it instead of vice versa.
