The Washington County fair in Kansas just finished up yesterday and these six tractors were entered. These tractors were projects that were done by a single high school in the county of Washington by their students. While most FFA classes put a priority on land, crop or livestock judging, this class puts an emphasis on antique tractor restoration. Tractors included a JD "B", JD "M", Massey 44, International "H", International "M" and a Case VAC. These tractors were done by high school students during the 2012-2013 year. Not too bad for a very small high school where each student can only work on the tractor less than an hour every school day. The instructors will make the kids give the tractor a complete overhaul, if needed. A couple of interesting notes: Six tractors were entered. The grand champion entry was the John Deere M.....a project that was done by a girl. The reserve grand champion entry was the International H....also done by another girl. The four other entries were very well done also. One final note: The International H had an oil dipstick instead of a petcock. I am by no means an "H" expert, but did somebody drop a "300" engine in that tractor? Sorry for the poor photos. I was using my wife's cheapie Kodak camera. (Hopefully the photos will load.....) Edit: I see the "M" got loaded twice. Photo of dipstick was on the "H".

Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
