: I have a '48 Cub that was running fine for years : until it decided to sputter and shoot flame from : the exhaust. I have traced the problem down to : not getting a consistent spark. The firing order : should be 1342, when I check the plugs I am only : getting fire intermittently, nothing close to the : correct firing order. When you say, replaced everything in the ignition system do you mean new plug wires? Magneto's demand wire type plug wire not resistor type. As far as firing order 1342 is typical as far a 4 cylinders, except for a WD. Roll the engine over to #1 cylinder TDC ready for the start of the power stroke. Get the Magneto ready to fire the pole you want to fire the #1 hole and connect that pole to that plug. When you know which way the magneto roles over connect the next pole of the magneto cap to #3 cylinder then #4 and #2. Somebody may have played a prank on you changing to wires to the wrong holes. : I have replaced everything ignition wise except : the magneto. The impulse coupling does seem to : be working. Could it be a problem with the coil : unit? I was always under the assumption that they : either worked or didn't, none of this inconsistent : spark stuff. Should I disconnect the kill switch for : a quick test?
