GO back to '02 -'04 LP was cheap, at the local Agway where I could get the tanks filled it was like $12.00 for a 30 lb tank and like $8.00 for a 20lb. Bulk would have been even less, if you could fill your own. I found an old receipt, some time back, was shocked compared to now, and I forget at the moment but I think a 30lb tank is almost $30, maybe $28 now. If I could afford to set up and buy bulk, I'd have an LP tractor, even if it was not the one I currently have, as I thought it was still less that gasoline. I am fortunate to not have to do a lot of run time, Agway is close by, but if I did have to run more hours, I'd have to find another supplier, where I could get several more tanks, at a better rate, and not worry about running out.
2 things I like about this set up, (used to be 3 when it was cheap) it runs real clean, engine oil lasts for years with the hours I do, ( run 15w-40 rotella it performs well) and I can refill, very quickly, take the spare with me put it if off to the side near where I am working or just secure it on the deck of the rotary cutter, which some will balk at, but when its time to re-fill, very simple process.

If you rebuild the motor, you could use hardened seats and valves, and unleaded fuel. But if your old tractor runs good, a simple lead substitute added to the gas is a perfectly reasonable solution. And, if you are like me, your tractor is under cover, but it sits outside. So with every temperature change, the humidity in the air collects in the fuel tank, in the form of water.
