I was out scouting some fields yesterday. I took several pictures of different things.
Here is a picture of some field contours with alfalfa, soybeans and corn in strips.
Here is a picture showing some erosion damns and grass/pheasant strips. The beans here where no-tilled after the Rye was harvested.
This picture is looking out over my Son's "new' farm. We border in the back of my place. The grass strip is another buffer and pheasant strip. I have over ten acres of them over the farm. I DO NOT receive any out side payments for them. I liked how the strips and alfalfa field look in a sea of corn.
We have very good crops around where I live. There are some average crops in the area but there is far more excellent crops than average crops. In North-Central and western Iowa there are areas of very poor crops. IL and IN have very good crops too. There is a good crop growing out here. Between the larger planted acres and the very good crops in other areas there will be a good harvest. The poor areas just are not enough acres to offset the good crops and the larger planted acres.
Those that "banked" on high grain prices may very well be disappointed this fall.
