Hy-tran is too thick to work long term. JD has low viscosity Hy-guard that is used in the hydros. It would be better than the Hy-tran. Neither is really rated for automatic transmission usage. It would not handle the heat as well s the ATF does.
As far as your transmission not having all the gears. It is fried. I will bet that your son drove it until it dropped. Smoked the clutch packs inside.
