I was looking at the infrared radar, maybe Saturday, and the most intense pocket of rain was over Missouri, it was not the usual orange, was going purple, looked like a dangerous thunderstorm. After weeks of rain, high humidity and some high heat at times, the jet stream and the high pressure or what, weather is perfect. 39% humidity, high of 80 deg F, sunny and dry, so much better to work outside, biting insects are gone,'cept the skeeters after dark, its amazing what some decent weather can do. Been at it since its been like this, wore out, taking it easy today, work on the tractor so I can get out and start mowing again.
That rain ought to do the tomatoes some good, soak in some nitrogen. I like to side dress those with dried blood before a rain, works well. My tomatoes are ok, I think they would be better caged, (next year) cherry tomatoes doing well, they climb up the fence as I plant them on the edge. Jet Star tomatoes will give me the best production, I have seen better in some years, but the big boys will probably give me one round and quit, they take longer. Certainly cannot complain, no blight, or cutworms, and I plant on the same ground mostly, hard to rotate in a small space. Bell peppers just take so long too, but they are lush, and I see a fair amount of flowers, but maybe I need something to boost the flower production, have to be careful with nitrogen on those, I did load the trench with the right fertilizer, some match heads too, as well as some epsom salts. Broccoli gave me another cutting last night, sure is some good stuff !
