Yea the Gama Goat left a lot to be desired. Production models had the Detroit 3-53 diesel engine. There was one in each tank company until they were eliminated.
The 113s were upgraded from gas with a Detroit then again to a 6V-53T Detroit Diesel that is currently. That upgrade was to increase the top speed so instead out outrunning the M60 series tanks it could keep up with the M1's. They also moved the fuel tank out of the crew compartment to the rear on both side of the ramp.
