Been pickin" the grass fer nigh onto 40 years now! Used to play banjo using a guitar pick due to the loss of my right hand first finger tip. One day, a friend told me to pitch that durn flat pick, and learn how to do it the right way! Then and there--i tossed the flat pick, slipped on the thumb and finger picks, and re-learned how to pick the banjo. Didn"t take very long at all--"bout 4 weeks. At first, the short finger didn"t want to get involved, but i finally forced the issue, and now it does well, along with the other fingers. Turned out not so hard after all! RJ
