I would suggest that you buy the shop manuals for this tractor (a good investment since you will need them to replace the bearing - torque settings, measurements and clearences plus how to instructions) and read up on rebuilding the tractor and replacing the clutch. : : Next (I'll bet you have already done this) drop the oil pan and remove the connecting rod bearing caps (keep them in order so when you reassemble the cap from cylinder one goes back to cylinder one). Look at the crankshaft journals they should be free from groves except for the one (or more) with the spun bearings. : : Then * one at a time * remove, inspect and replace the main bearing caps and journals. : : If any of the journals have groves (Your Service Manual will help you with this) the crankshaft will have to come out. : : Ed : : Get some good advice from a mechanic who may take some time to take a look at your 4020 engine after you get the pan off and the cap off the spun bearing. : Any engine with a spun bearing should have the crankshaft pulled out and checked. Get advice from a JD expert about how much can be removed from the journals before weakening the journals. Most IH cranks should never have more than .010" taken off the journals. A weak crank can run for weeks and then crack! : Get the injectors out and have them checked. The pressure settings and test for leakage of the injector tips should be made and corrected. : Many engines have spray nozzles on the main journals that can easily get plugged up with a spun bearing. Be sure to check them. : You could remove the crank without taking the head off, if you are confident that no damage has been done to the sleeves and pistons and rings. This would not require a major overhaul list in parts.. It gets done in a shop oftentimes. : You may require special built tools to remove injectors, etc. : I work with CASE-IH and have had a taste of many. : Milan
