Had an office with a back door onto a raised patio, with a couple steps made out of railroad ties up to the patio. Railroad ties will rot on the inside while the pressure treated portion stays intact. Got a nest of yellowjackets in there. Tried spraying into the entrance hole, but there was a right angle turn that prevented the spray from getting in.
So hatched a plan. I'll pull the offending step apart with a claw hammer, then spray if I get time, but secretary will hold the door and open it quick when I'm headed for it, then close it to keep out the jackets.
Great plan. Didn't get time to spray, because they came right out, of course. I dove for the door, she opened it and closed it at the right time. I made it in unscathed, but a couple of jackets made it in, too, and somehow I handed off the claw hammer to secretary. So now she's stalking these guys, with a hammer in her hand.
I immediately decided this was a problem, and quickly relieved her of her weapon of very probably destruction (lots of windows in the place). Managed to obsquatchilate the little devils, and periodically stuck just my hand and can of spray out the door a few times, until everything was saturated, and nary a live jacket to be found by the next morning.
Post script on the secretary- nice woman, very competent. Her husband was a general contractor, and got into some "robbing Peter to pay Paul" situations, which got worse when a riding arena he was building collapsed during construction, and he had no insurance.
She came in to work on Monday before Thanksgiving (about 12 years ago), handed me a dollar, and said "You're my attorney now, so everything I say is privileged, right?" "Yep" "Well, we're leaving town over the Thanksgiving weekend. Not telling anybody but you where we're going, so you need to fend off the creditors. If you can hire someone quick, I'll get her as up to speed as I can before we go."
So they were gone- and I was very surprised to receive only one call, from a very minor creditor- nothing from the aggrieved arena owner or any lawyers trying to run them down. She ended up divorcing the guy, and last I heard, was office manager for a big nursery firm across the road from the trailer court they first moved into.

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
