I was thinking the warning system was telling him the landing gear was NOT down. If you notice he is losing altitude as he comes in for the drop and is very close to the top of some of the hills. As soon as the drop is made and he starts gaining altitude the warning devise shuts up.
But as you explain it that does make sense. He lifted the landing gear after the drop to gain speed and that turned off the warning devise.
I have seen one video that explained newer air drop planes that have variable pitch props to combat slower speeds needed to load and unload.
The thing that caught my eye in this video is how far he is from the fire. I expected the drop to be right on the fire line. In other words smothering the fire rather than creating a fire break line.
