I have one saw that mfr recommends ordinary motor oil. Got a couple jugs of bar oil from TSC - too thick to properly feed through my saw's feeder. Son-in-law's brother works for a major tree service. They supply the oil - he says he can smell the used transmission fluid, motor oil and whatever they dump in there. Apparently supplier is filtering used oils, and selling it as bar oil.
