jm, Family did the Chama NM, to Ananita, Colo. Route a few yrs ago, was a blast to see the old engins run, and the mountains too. The day we rode they pulled a Double Header on the first leg of the route. Steepest grade, after we broke the summit they cut loose the lead engine and we went on with one. Also the Cumbers-Toltec train , and route was used in the Movie "Where the Hells that Gold" with Willie Nelson, Jack Elam, Delta Burk! My Son, F-I-L, and Myself rode on the rear platform of the first car and front platform of the second car the whole way! Had really good view of engine from the rear and the countryside! My wife and M-I-L sat just inside on the # 2 car. They serve a lunch at noon-ish, midway point. Sandwichs, Chips and a Coke, I think. At Ananita Colo. We rode the Bus back to Chama! If you want to pay more I think you can ride the train back. The Chama NM. Start, run gets my vote! Hope this helps. Later, John A
