2 wire never heard of one unless it is wired wrong out your not counting the wires right as in if a Delco 10SI you have the plug that has 2 wires and the #2 wire goes to the big charge stud the #1 goes to the ignition and then the big charge stud goes to the amp gauge. I the #2 is not hooked up that can cause over charging which can cause problems. By the way no such thing as a coil with the resister built in they are just a coil wired for 12 volts and do not have a resister. Sounds like you have cheap points or set wrong. Side mount you set at 0.025
