Almost anything acidic will react with aluminum. I have heard of people using an aluminum canner to make a large quantity of chicken stew and if any was left in the vessel for an extended period of time, would make people very ill. Unscrupulous bootleggers some times use old automobile radiators as condensers. The alcohol will react with the lead in the solder used to assemble the radiator and it will poison and even kill someone consuming it. Stills are advertised on the net. Just Google "whiskey still" and you will be surprised at the number of places. But they use silver solder where needed. BTW, If the moonshine you drank was as bad as you described it, whoever made it didn't know how to properly make moonshine.
