The flood in June of '65 dumped 14" in 24 hrs. but it was centered more to the SW and, for the most part, spared the area north and west of Denver . It wasn't the Platte river system that time but the Arkansas and its' tributaries - What's going on now is a bad deal for sure but a thousand-year-flood? - not hardly
I was living in Pueblo at the time and saw the flooded (normally pretty much dry) Fountain Creek breaking OVER the 4th street bridge which would require a bit more than 17 ft. of water to accomplish. At the Brewery Bridge (where the Fountain dumps into the Arkansas) the water from the Fountain actually caused the Arkansas to flow backwards for about 30-40 yards.
By the way, it took about 2 months (as I remember) for the flood waters to get to Great Bend, KS.
