this is one of those posts that would have been EXCELENT for the FORD forum since it involves a FORD tractor, vs a GENERIC forum that see's MUCH LESS traffic.
That said. you need to determine if the difficulty in steering is int he steering gearbox or the front spindles. disconnect the draglinks from the sectro arms or the front pittman arms and see if the box is stiff.. or the spindles are stiff.
If it is stiff when jacked up.. more than likely it is the box. sector backlash may have been way over adjsuted to make up for play in the steering . which came about from lack of lube..e tc.
also.. thrust bearings, especially yhe upper one may be dry and crunchy from lack of lube. recirculating ballnut may be dry as well.. all contribuiting to stiff steering.
what century did you last service the lube in the steering gearbox?
lastly. when you steer lock to lock does the steering wheel slightly rise fromt he steering column or fall into the column a bit? if so.. plan on repalcing thrust bearings and maybee races too.. at a minimum..
