Nice picture of an almost new combine. I see the door is left open on the top of the return elevator so he can glance back to see how much is being returned. The first combine to harvest corn on this farm was a 45.
The first thing to come to my mind when I saw the pic was how much history your grandpa could share with us if he was alive today. Do you know how old he was at the time? He looks to be old enough to have been a WW1 vet. He might even have known a few old civil war vets when he was a little kid. Jim

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
