I think it all comes back to what I perceive as the "removal of consequences".
Didn't graduate?....no problem. Here's a check.

Agreed to a contract your company can't honor?...no problem. Here's a check.
Break the law?....slight problem. Here's a slap on the wrist.
The list goes on and on........
