Jay I would be that your linkage is tuck some where. That is what bent the cross trip when it did not trip and the bales pushed it down. Check out all of the linkage and pivots real close. They have to be totally free or it will not work right.
Also rod #20 is held into tube #14 with roll pins. You can change the length with these roll pins. I have also seen the roll pins sheared if the linkage sticks.
The 30 ejector is a simple machine other than the hydraulics. Your issue seems to be mechanical rather than hydraulic.
