I don't see how anyone could have been surprised at the condition of the vehicles that were stored outside. Some of the parts or project cars did bring strong money. Some sold for reasonable prices.
It was obvious early on that the ultra low mileage vehicles that had been stored inside were going to bring record prices, regardless of condition. I suspect a few of those will be restored, probably using NOS parts. I expect most of the low mileage stuff will be preserved.
You can't compare the price of an original truck with 1.3 miles to a restored truck. The Lambrect stuff brought high prices because of the special circumstances that kept those vehicles out of circulation. Anyone that bought one of the low mileage, never before titled vehicles sure isn't going to drive them.
I suspect the locals thought Mr. Lambrect was off his rocker for refusing to sell used vehicles or vehicles that were left over from the previous model year. After seeing what everything sold for they're probably thinking he was pretty smart.
Now we've got people saying buyers are crazy for paying such high prices. I can only wonder what those ultra low mileage vehicles will be worth in 50 years.
