You are correct in that- McCormick was the first to successfully produce and market the reaper, but did not invent it. If I recall correctly, Obed Hussey had other inventions as well but did not have the resources to turn them into production. A really good book that gives a thorough history of harvesting machinery and tells the story of U.S. agriculture is "The Dream Reaper" by Craig Canine (sp?).
